Recognized Candidateship:

  • To be admitted as a recognized-candidate in the organization, a student must be currently enrolled in accounting, finance, and financial services majors, successfully complete a semester as a candidate and maintain minimum academic performance.
  • To fully benefit from Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) activities, students seeking to be BAP candidates may declare their candidacy as early as their first year at their enrolled institution. A student may remain a candidate for no more than one semester following completion of required major courses prior to induction as a full member; exceptions for special circumstances may be made only with approval of the chapter’s faculty advisor.

Categories of Membership:

  • Membership in Beta Alpha Psi shall be limited to those persons of good moral character who have achieved scholastic and/or professional excellence in the fields of accounting who have been initiated according to the official membership ceremony; and who are in good standing.
  • Members of Beta Alpha Psi enrolled as accounting students at the University of North Florida chapter shall be designated as Student members.
  • Candidates of Beta Alpha Psi are students who have declared a concentration in accounting (or who have indicated an intention to concentrate in accounting) but who have not yet met the requirements for the membership ceremony.
  • Members of Beta Alpha Psi who are on the faculty of the University of North Florida chapter shall be designated as Faculty members.
  • Members of Beta Alpha Psi, once classified as Student members, who are no longer concentrating in accounting or no longer associated with a collegiate institution where there is a chapter shall be designated as Alumnus members.
  • Members of Beta Alpha Psi, once classified as Faculty members, who are no longer associated with a collegiate institution where there is a chapter shall be designated as Alumnus members.
  • Members of Beta Alpha Psi who, at the time of their membership ceremony, are neither students nor faculty at the institution where the initiating chapter is located shall be designated as Honorary members.
  • An individual may be initiated only once as a member of Beta Alpha Psi, but may be an Honorary member of multiple chapters.

Candidate Requirement:

  • Degree seeking undergraduate and graduate students (MAcc. and MBA) and non-degree Post-Baccalaureate students at institutions where a chapter is located shall be eligible for election to membership after they:
    • have declared a concentration in accounting (or have stated an intention to declare a concentration in accounting),
    • are matriculated students at the chapter university, and
    • have attained a cumulative GPA in upper level courses, in their declared area of concentration, beyond the business core of at least 3.0 (where A is equal to 4.0) or the equivalent (for graduate students this GPA should be measured after at least one semester or quarter of academic work); and
    • have attained at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0, or
    • have attained at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA on the most recently completed 30 semester hours.
  • Degree seeking graduate students (MAcc. & MBA) at the University of North Florida shall be eligible for membership if they:
    • are majoring, concentrating, or have a stated interest in accounting, are matriculated students at the University of North Florida, and;
    • have attained a cumulative grade average in their graduate courses of at least 3.0 (where A is equal to 4.0) or equivalent.
  • Full-time, academically or professionally qualified members of the accounting faculty at institutions where a chapter is located are eligible for initiation as Faculty members.
  • Persons exhibiting those qualities that Beta Alpha Psi fosters and who have achieved prominence in the fields of accounting or have contributed significantly of their time and talent to Beta Alpha Psi or its local chapters are eligible for election as Honorary members.
  • Local chapters may establish a local chapter Candidate period and other more restrictive requirements for membership.
  • Alumnus of other recognized Beta Alpha Psi chapters at a different institution may who are currently graduate students at UNF and fall in the graduate student requirements listed in Section 2 may apply for membership as a student.
